My Love Affair with Books

Ok. Well, maybe this post really isn’t about the “beauty” of books. But I just feel as though I should write at least one blog about how much I love to read. As I write this post, I am currently listening to an Audiobook. I’m in love with reading that much.

I have always loved to read. I went into Kindergarten reading. We each spent time with a parent that would come in to help us learn to read, but I would just read on my own. Since then, my love for reading has only grown. Every summer for as long as I can remember, I have been participating in my public library’s summer reading program. Basically, every 3 books (for the adult reading program) gets a ticket into the lottery drawing for their prizes. One of the books needs to be a book in the theme of the summer. A few years ago, I received a mug as a prize and it is beautiful. It is a large mug with a Monet painting on it.

Anyway, in 5th grade, I read 100 books in one summer. And I got to carry a sign that said that in the parade at the end of the summer. Needless to say, I was kind of a nerd growing up. However, nerds in elementary school tend to be the ones that make money later in life, so I’m not concerned. Plus, I have a great personality from years of not being the popular kid that helped me develop my fantastic sense of humor, if I can say so, myself.

I don’t make New Years Resolutions, generally. But this year, I had a goal of reading 30 books. In September, I hit that goal. I reset my goal to 40 books. Hopefully I will hit that. The site I use to keep track of my reading is Goodreads.com. It’s fantastic. Based on the books I review, the site provides similar books that I will like. I very much enjoy it. All my favorite books are listed.

I am currently reading Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia, listening to Crossed on audiobook by Allie Condie and also reading Abnormal Psychology by Ronald J. Comer for my class I am taking. I very much appreciate any book suggestions or comments on reading/books/anything related. Thank god for books!
